ArtSystems’ STEM Ambassadors to drive greater student access to 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing

Specialist distributor ArtSystems has announced that two of its staff have successfully attained Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassador accreditation. As STEM Ambassadors Ted Freer (Divisional Manager Design) and Will Glass (3D printer specialist) can now work directly with schools and colleges to promote STEM subjects – such as 3D printing and additive manufacturing – while also bringing to bear their extensive commercial and industry experience.

Ted and Will both work within ArtSystems’ 3D Printer business; and as STEM Ambassadors are able to bring invaluable insight to lessons by providing real-world problems for students to experience and solve, while also equipping teachers with the technical advice and practical support they need to better educate students about STEM projects. Another key aspect of a STEM Ambassador’s value is in the creation of connections with employers and industry resources, enhancing the way STEM subjects are delivered within schools and colleges.

They are also able to give careers talks or assist at careers fairs; in fact Ted and Will’s first formal engagement will be on the 5th December as part of a Future Careers Inspiration event to be held at the National Video Arcade in Nottingham. They will present year7and 8 students, (11-13 years) with the opportunity to engage in a task using 3D printed materials, and to discover how additive manufacturing will transform the employment landscape in the future.

Ted explained: “Becoming a STEM Ambassador is one of the most satisfying aspects of my work to date. I am proud to be in a position to inspire students across a broad age range, and to help them understand the great opportunities awaiting them thanks to this incredible technology. It makes a welcome break from the cut and thrust of the business world.”
